3 min read

Datsun, the low-cost brand of Nissan is all set to launch its first ever crossover MPV in India. The crossover model has been christened as Datsun ‘Cross’ and is based on the Datsun GO+ MPV. It was earlier expected to be launched at the Auto Expo 2018, but the manufacturer pulled off from the event.

The model GO Cross is the same model that was showcased as a concept model at the 2016 Auto Expo. However, the model has been unveiled in Indonesia, while its India launch may take place sometime in mid-2018. Here we bring to you everything about the 2018 Datsun GO Cross, that may keep you interested.

Exterior and Interior Design

The all-new Datsun GO Cross is built on the Nissan’s ‘V’ platform, which also underpins the GO Plus MPV. It is likely to be lighter than its sibling though. Visually, it looks almost like a compact SUV, thanks to its raised stance and bold design. It features chrome bordered hexagonal grille and sweptback headlights with integrated LED DRL. Moreover, the car gets new 15-inch flared wheel arches with alloy wheels.

Coming to the interior design of the crossover, it may gets a new dashboard layout with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The quality of the material used for finishing the interior is quite good and the five-seat configuration allows comfort ride to five adults.

Power Mechanism

The exact details about the engine mechanism of the Indian-spec Datsun Cross are still under the wraps. However, the Indonesian-spec model is powered by the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol motor that also drives the regular GO models. The engine is capable of producing the highest power of 67 bhp at 5,000 revolutions per minute against 104 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 revolutions per minute. Moreover, the model may also get a 1.5-litre K9K diesel unit for the Indian market. The engine will be paired with a standard five-speed manual gearbox across the variants, while a CVT gearbox may also be available as an option in the top-end trims.

Safety features

The Datsun Cross is equipped with all standard safety and security features like dual front airbags, engine immobilizer, rear parking sensor, traction control, cruise control, etc.

Suspension & Braking

In terms of suspension, the Datsun GO Cross gets double pivoted lower arm MacPherson Strut at the front and H-type Torsion Beam as the rear suspension unit to offer a comfortable ride on tough terrains.

In the braking department, the crossover model gets disc brakes on the front wheels and drum brakes on the rear ones. To further improve the braking efficiency, the top-end variants will get ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution) option.

Is it worth the price?

Equipped with almost all the latest features and modern styling, the Datsun GO Cross is certainly going to be one of the most impressive products from the manufacturer in the Indian market. It is expected to be priced starting at Rs. 5 lakh for the base models and might go up to Rs. 7 lakh for the top-notch trims. The affordable pricing will obviously make it a good buy in the MPV-crossover segment. It will be up against the likes of Tata Nexon and Vitara Brezza in the Indian market. Though it lags behind in some of the department from the key rivals, still it can attract buyers for its affordability.
